This article presents the methodology and outcomes of a multi-stage research project aimed at building the first comprehensive lexical database of the Azerbaijani language, developed within the framework of corpus linguistics and statistical lexicography. The database functions as a foundational linguistic module within the national corpus, providing structured lexical inventories for both academic research and technological applications. During the research, a corpus of 520 million word-forms from various functional styles was collected, cleaned, and structured using specialized software. As a result of automatic processing, 2, 918, 910 word-forms were initially identified; through several subsequent stages of technical and lexical filtering, the database was refined. Ultimately, 175, 521 lexical units were compiled into structured word lists, sorted by frequency and in alphabetical order. Additionally, 93, 287 words not found in the orthographic dictionary of Azerbaijani language were identified and presented in a separate list. The article elaborates on the structure of the national corpus, its components (fiction, publisistic, scientific, official, spoken, and educational texts), concordances, and linguistic analyzers. The lexical database is presented as a strategic resource for both theoretical research and practical applications such as natural language processing, automatic translation, text-to-speech systems, and artificial intelligence models. The study demonstrates significant scientific and practical outcomes in the development of digital lexical resources for the Azerbaijani language.

Although ambiguity in languages is often considered as a problem, it provides value. Ambiguity is found in every aspect of language, but newspaper headlines are outstanding as the most important source of examples of ambiguity. One of the most important reasons that newspaper readers cannot be successful readers while glancing at newspaper headlines is that they are not aware of different types of ambiguities created by special characteristics which are typical of newspaper language. Ambiguity is not only typical of headlines, but in this research I deal with structural (noun-verb) and lexical (polyseme) ambiguity in English headlines written by native and non-native journalists. The hypothesis is that the texts, in the case of this study, the headlines written by native and non-native journalists contain different amounts of structural (noun/verb) and lexical (polyseme) ambiguity. In order to arrive at the exact amounts of the two above mentioned ambiguities, we made fifty tests of''Noun or Verb?''tests and fifty tests of''what does it mean?''tests based on the headlines in the two English newspapers written by non-native and foreign journalists. The participants were selected from the university undergraduate English students and described and compared the two sets of data in terms of structural and lexical ambiguities to find out which set of English newspaper headlines (written by native or non-native journalists) are more ambiguous. One reason that EFL students are not …
One reason that EFL students are not successful readers concerning newspaper articles is that they are not familiar with redundancy in journalistic texts. The hypothesis is that articles written by Azerbaijani and Iranian journalists contain different amounts of redundancy. We selected 5 articles from Iranian newspapers and 5 from Azerbaijani ones and contrasted two sets of dada in terms of syntactic redundancy to find out which set is more redundant. The research indicates that the two sets of articles are more or less equally redundant in some categories but mote redundant in other categories. The outcomes of the study could be useful for both EFL learners and trainers. They might make their students familiar with the realizations of strategies employed by the writers.

The article deals with the description of the nature of the linguistic time and the problem of reflection of the notion «time» in the language. Taking into consideration the fact of indispensable relation of the notions «time» and «space», the author attempts to specify, on the materials of the Azerbaijani and English languages, a number of characteristic peculiarities of explication of the notion «time» in the language.Понятие времени в языке может быть реализовано грамматическими, лексическими и функционально-стилистическими средствами, что, в свою очередь, приводит к выражению времени в языке как целой системы. На протяжении длительного времени при описании времени в языке ученые отдавали особое преимущество глагольным формам, при этом не уделялось достаточного внимания как лексическим, так и другим средствам выражения времени. Известно что, их изучение дает исследованию интересные факты. Именно поэтому лексико-семантическая категория времени отличается своей актуальностью. Исследование временной лексики актуально еще и потому, что лексемы этого плана более древние. Они составляют часть основного словарного фонда и служат для наименования особенно важных для человеческой жизни реалий.

Azərbaycan dilçiliyində dilin hərtərəfli tədqiqi ilə bağlı bir çox problemlərin öyrənilməsində mühüm uğurlar əldə edilmişdir. Bununla belə, Azərbaycan dilinin ayrı-ayrı səviyyələrinə aid müxtəlif kateqoriyaları ilə əlaqədar olan bəzi problemlər hələ də tam öyrənilməmiş qalmaqdadır. Bunlardan biri də spesifikliyi ilə diqqəti cəlb edən zaman problemidir. This article presents the methodology and outcomes of a multi-stage research project aimed at building the first comprehensive lexical database of the Azerbaijani language, developed within the framework of corpus linguistics and statistical lexicography. The database functions as a foundational linguistic module within the national corpus, providing structured lexical inventories for both academic research and technological applications. During the research, a corpus of 520 million word-forms from various functional styles was collected, cleaned, and structured using specialized software. As a result of automatic processing, 2, 918, 910 word-forms were initially identified; through several subsequent stages of technical and lexical filtering, the database was refined. Ultimately, 175, 521 lexical units were compiled into structured word lists, sorted by frequency and in alphabetical order. Additionally, 93, 287 words not found in the orthographic dictionary of Azerbaijani language were identified and presented in a separate list. The article elaborates on the structure of the national corpus, its components (fiction, publisistic, scientific, official, spoken, and educational texts), concordances, and linguistic analyzers. The lexical database is presented as a strategic resource for both theoretical research and practical applications such as natural language processing, automatic translation, text-to-speech systems, and artificial intelligence models. The study demonstrates significant scientific and practical outcomes in the development of digital lexical resources for the Azerbaijani language.
