Since the historical background of the topic of the presented article is very broad, this study only covers the historical development of the tattooing tradition, the meaning of some signs and the custom of «khinayakhdi», the reasons for its implementation, etc. has been noted. Traces of both traditions in ancient cultures have been investigated, why they are applied to the body, and with what technique. The result of the research allows us to say that both tatu and henna tradition do not have the same goals, ideas and content as they did in ancient times. A modern man does not make a symbol, mark or mark, even a plot, based on any religious belief or imagination, which is tattooed or hennaed on the body. It is just used as an ornament, decoration and part of modern fashion. It is a good thing that there are a number of existing tribes that still keep these customs and traditions alive with their goals and tasks and pass them on to future generations. However, in all regions of Azerbaijan, and especially in Karabakh,«khinayakhdi», which is performed as a part of the wedding tradition, is carried out in a distorted manner. This in itself leads to the wrong information of the future generations, and the customs are not performed correctly.

In the works analyzed in the presented article, the embodiment of the image of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev by means of symbols is discussed. Addressing this topic, Azerbaijani artists tried to compare the great leader to a tree, a mountain (Ilandag or Hachadag), and the sun, and to make them one with those beings. The meaning of the compositions, the form of expression differ, and the idea is based on universal principles. Because these symbols have been considered as the main source of belief of the ancient Turks throughout history. Surrounded by these symbols, the image of Heydar Aliyev is remembered as a wise leader and head of state.

This article examines the cultural, religious, and political significance of the lion symbol in Azerbaijan’s historical flags. From its early presence in the Gobustan petroglyphs through the Safavid, Qajar, and various khanate periods, the lion has represented not only power and authority but also cosmological and mythological beliefs. The research draws on primary sources—archaeological findings, historical documents, wall paintings, and related materials—to show that the lion emblem was widespread across Turkic-Islamic culture and other regional civilizations. During the Safavid era, the lion-and-sun depiction became a key indicator of religious and ideological legitimacy, while the Qajars inherited this tradition and introduced different stylistic changes in official emblems and flags. The main aim of this study is to trace the symbol’s evolution from antiquity to modern times, highlighting its enduring spiritual and political values. Methodologically, an interdisciplinary approach is employed, including art-historical and iconographic analyses, alongside comparative studies. By examining written sources, numismatic evidence, and ethnographic observations, the findings reveal that the lion served as an ideological instrument under various rulers, firmly embedded within Azerbaijan’s state traditions. The study expands scholarly understanding of this motif and lays the groundwork for future investigations. Consequently, exploring the lion’s role within both ancient belief systems and Islamic frameworks provides deeper insights into Azerbaijan’s political and cultural heritage. This scholarly article examines the “protected tree” motif in art (specifically the tree of life guarded by flanking figures) and its connection to the divine prohibition in the Adam and Eve narrative across religions. First, the presence of the tree of life motif in ancient art and Azerbaijani cultural heritage is explored with examples: a sacred tree often depicted with two symmetric guardian animals or beings, symbolizing fertility, abundance, and immortality. The article then analyzes the scriptural account of Adam and Eve‟ s forbidden tree. Citing verses 19-22 of Surah AlA „raf, the study proposes that the Quran‟ s forbidden tree can be logically understood as the tree of life, ie a metaphor for establishing a lineage (“building a shajara”, engaging in procreative sexual relations). It is argued that in the Eden narrative, Adam and Eve were instructed not to procreate (not to start a family tree) while in Paradise. Supporting evidence from Quranic text is presented: Satan‟ s temptation aimed to reveal their nakedness, and upon eating the fruit, Adam and Eve became aware of their sexuality and covered themselves with leaves–suggesting the forbidden act was of a sexual nature. The concept of “shajara”(genealogical tree) is explained, noting that in Arabic the word means “tree” and by extension a family lineage chart. The article draws on interpretations by modern Islamic scholars (eg Javed Ahmad Ghamidi) and comparative tradition, which propose that the original sin was metaphorically a premature conjugal act rather than mere disobedience. Автор подчеркивает, что образ Деде Коркута воплощен не только в искусстве Азербайджана, но и Казахстана, Татарстана и других республик. По мере развития изобразительного искусства в течении ХХ в., таких его составных частей, как живопись, графика, иллюстрирование книг, развивался и этот многоликий, полулегендарный образ мудрого старца, достигнув своего расцвета в период независимости Азербайджана и других тюркских народов. Исследуя работы, автор выявляет своеобразные особенности в эволюции облика, сопоставляя их между собой и обнаруживая в них принципы, общие для тюркского мира.

Статья посвящена проблеме эволюции художественного облика Деде Коркута-важного литературного героя, широко распространенного в фольклоре тюркских народов. Автор подчеркивает, что образ Деде Коркута воплощен не только в искусстве Азербайджана, но и Казахстана, Татарстана и других республик. По мере развития изобразительного искусства в течении ХХ века, таких его составных частей, как живопись, графика, иллюстрирование книг, развивался и этот многоликий, полулегендарный образ мудрого старца, достигнув своего расцвета в период независимости Азербайджана и других тюркских народов. В статье освещается творчество азербайджанских художников–М. Абдуллаева, Ф. Мамедвелиева, И. Агаева, создавших интересные образы Деде Коргута, а также творчество художников из тюркских республик–Баки Урманче, Айбека Розакова, Сагынтая Алимбетова и других. Исследуя эти работы, автор выявляет своеобразные особенности в эволюции облика, сопоставляя их между собой и обнаруживая в них принципы, общие для тюркского мира.

В исследовании на примере образцов живописи системно рассмотрены не только личность мудрого старца, но и его одежда и аксессуары, выявлено символическое значение знаков на них. Since the historical background of the topic of the presented article is very broad, this study only covers the historical development of the tattooing tradition, the meaning of some signs and the custom of «khinayakhdi», the reasons for its implementation, etc. has been noted. Traces of both traditions in ancient cultures have been investigated, why they are applied to the body, and with what technique. The result of the research allows us to say that both tatu and henna tradition do not have the same goals, ideas and content as they did in ancient times. A modern man does not make a symbol, mark or mark, even a plot, based on any religious belief or imagination, which is tattooed or hennaed on the body. It is just used as an ornament, decoration and part of modern fashion. It is a good thing that there are a number of existing tribes that still keep these customs and traditions alive with their goals and tasks and pass them on to future generations. However, in all regions of Azerbaijan, and especially in Karabakh,«khinayakhdi», which is performed as a part of the wedding tradition, is carried out in a distorted manner. In the works analyzed in the presented article, the embodiment of the image of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev by means of symbols is discussed. Addressing this topic, Azerbaijani artists tried to compare the great leader to a tree, a mountain (Ilandag or Hachadag), and the sun, and to make them one with those beings. The meaning of the compositions, the form of expression differ, and the idea is based on universal principles. Because these symbols have been considered as the main source of belief of the ancient Turks throughout history. Surrounded by these symbols, the image of Heydar Aliyev is remembered as a wise leader and head of state.

This article examines the cultural, religious, and political significance of the lion symbol in Azerbaijan’s historical flags. From its early presence in the Gobustan petroglyphs through the Safavid, Qajar, and various khanate periods, the lion has represented not only power and authority but also cosmological and mythological beliefs. The research draws on primary sources—archaeological findings, historical documents, wall paintings, and related materials—to show that the lion emblem was widespread across Turkic-Islamic culture and other regional civilizations. During the Safavid era, the lion-and-sun depiction became a key indicator of religious and ideological legitimacy, while the Qajars inherited this tradition and introduced different stylistic changes in official emblems and flags. The main aim of this study is to trace the symbol’s evolution from antiquity to modern times, highlighting its enduring spiritual and political values. Methodologically, an interdisciplinary approach is employed, including art-historical and iconographic analyses, alongside comparative studies. By examining written sources, numismatic evidence, and ethnographic observations, the findings reveal that the lion served as an ideological instrument under various rulers, firmly embedded within Azerbaijan’s state traditions. The study expands scholarly understanding of this motif and lays the groundwork for future investigations. Consequently, exploring the lion’s role within both ancient belief systems and Islamic frameworks provides deeper insights into Azerbaijan’s political and cultural heritage. This scholarly article examines the “protected tree” motif in art (specifically the tree of life guarded by flanking figures) and its connection to the divine prohibition in the Adam and Eve narrative across religions. First, the presence of the tree of life motif in ancient art and Azerbaijani cultural heritage is explored with examples: a sacred tree often depicted with two symmetric guardian animals or beings, symbolizing fertility, abundance, and immortality. The article then analyzes the scriptural account of Adam and Eve‟ s forbidden tree. Citing verses 19-22 of Surah AlA „raf, the study proposes that the Quran‟ s forbidden tree can be logically understood as the tree of life, ie a metaphor for establishing a lineage (“building a shajara”, engaging in procreative sexual relations). It is argued that in the Eden narrative, Adam and Eve were instructed not to procreate (not to start a family tree) while in Paradise. Supporting evidence from Quranic text is presented: Satan‟ s temptation aimed to reveal their nakedness, and upon eating the fruit, Adam and Eve became aware of their sexuality and covered themselves with leaves–suggesting the forbidden act was of a sexual nature. The concept of “shajara”(genealogical tree) is explained, noting that in Arabic the word means “tree” and by extension a family lineage chart. The article draws on interpretations by modern Islamic scholars (eg Javed Ahmad Ghamidi) and comparative tradition, which propose that the original sin was metaphorically a premature conjugal act rather than mere disobedience. Objectives: The study aims to analyze the shadow economy in Middle Eastern countries, exploring its impact on socio-economic development and fiscal policy. It seeks to evaluate taxation measures for hidden income and propose strategies to mitigate shadow economy activities.Methods: The research employs analysis and mathematical modeling to examine the relationship between the shadow economy and fiscal policy. A regression model was constructed to study the dependence of tax revenue effectiveness on the strength of legal regulations, with 82% of changes in tax revenues explained by changes in legal measures.Results: The findings reveal an inverse relationship between the shadow economy's size and the effectiveness of fiscal policies in Middle Eastern countries. The persistence of shadow economic activities undermines tax revenues, while poor living standards, poverty, and limited social development further exacerbate the issue. The study identifies key areas for improvement, such as broadening the tax base, increasing tax rates, legalizing income, and regulating informal activities.Conclusion: The shadow economy significantly hampers socio-economic development in the Middle East. Strengthening fiscal policy through better legal frameworks, effective taxation measures, and regulation of informal economic activities is essential for reducing the shadow economy's size and fostering sustainable growth in the region.
