This field examines the connotations of meaning such as contraction and expansion in the meaning of any word. In this article, meaning changes in proverbs related to kinship are examined.

The thesis on “Study on Azerbaijan and Turkish Proverbs on Kinship” constitutes for about 3060 proverbs that were selected on the subject of Azerbaijan proverbs on kinship. The study aims to recruits examples of these proverbs that fall very same or similar in meanings found in Turkish language as well as the ones with non-equivalence. In our study, the proverbs of the both Turkish dialects were collected on the concerned subject and studied. The introductory chapter gives a brief feedback on the subject, purpose, scope, source and method, and the first chapter mainly deals with the proverbs and their importance in both Turkish dialects. The second and third chapters constitute the main parts of the thesis. In these chapters, the sentence types and vocabulary frequency of the proverbs in the both dialects are of concern, and were studied in terms of semantics. In the last chapter, 3060 proverbs were compared with regard to form and content, and concluded that thousands of Azerbaijan proverbs have the same, or similar meanings with Turkish proverbs, and hundreds of them are literally the same. The conclusion chapter presents the findings of our study.
