The public oversight of oil projects in Azerbaijan, 2004–2007 International Social Science Journal / Blackwell Publishing Ltd /Cild: 57 səh: 93-106 Farda Asadov 9 2005 Azerbaijan's rich hydrocarbon resources could bring it … Azerbaijan's rich hydrocarbon resources could bring it up to $US200 billion of income. However, the period for exploiting these deposits will be quite short, and after 2011 the returns will gradually decrease. While the government and people are aware that measures are needed to manage these resources effectively, no mechanisms exist for the government to work together with civil society to exploit this resource in the interests of Azerbaijan citizens. The successful application of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Azerbaijan may seem to be a significant achievement but, because of the historical conditions of the country's development, there are basic risks of corruption in Azerbaijan in the expenditure of resources. The Azerbaijan experience of collaborating with civil society is in practice limited to accounting for income within the framework of the EITI. In developing a culture of dialogue with … Daha çox

Oil caravans of the 21st century on the Great Silk Road: What the future has in store for Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Central Asia and the Caucasus /Cild: 6 səh: 179-85 Farda Asadov 9 2000 In Antiquity and the Middle Ages the … In Antiquity and the Middle Ages the trade routes ran along the northern and southern Caspian shores, gaining the most importance in turn depending on the political alliances of the Great Steppe with Mid-Eastern and European countries. In the sixth-seventh centuries a trade and diplomatic union between the Western Turkic Khanate and the Byzantine Empire revived the route between it and Derbent and further on to the Caspian steppes (Mangyshlak, the Aral Sea shores, Southern Kazakhstan, Eastern Turkestan). Arabs, having gained in the mid-eighth century the borders of China, made secure and developed another route leading from Eastern Turkestan through Central Asia, Middle East, Asia Minor and further to the Byzantine Empire and Egypt. 1There was practically no marine transport on the Caspian to speak of, yet caravans from far-away countries traveled along its shores, numerous peoples and tribes were moving there to meet their historic destinies, they negotiated the Caucasian mountains from the north and reached the Transcaucasus from the south. The Khazars as ‘Sons of Abraham’ Хазарский альманах / Інститут сходознавства ім. АЮ Кримського НАН України Peter B Golden 2 2016 The accounts of Ibn Sa‘d, Ibn al-Faqîh … The accounts of Ibn Sa‘d, Ibn al-Faqîh and al-Tabarî, going back to Hišâm ibn al-Kalbî (late eighth-early ninth century), a contemporary of one of the culminating stages in the conversion of the Khazars to Judaism, are pious legends put forward to claim a link of the Khazars directly to Abraham’s (Arab) descendants in Khurâsân. Although these tales are Arabo-Muslim in origin, it is likely that a connection of the Khazars with Abraham would have found a receptive audience in a Judeo-Khazar milieu The tale also hints at the origins of the qağanal title among the Khazars, giving it a Biblical pedigree and hence sacral authority that would be understandable and acceptable to the Arabo-Muslim world with which the Khazars had developed significant commercial ties. Bibliotheca Orientalis Hungarica (Budapest: Akadâemiai Kiadâo, 1980) /Cild: 1 səh: 220 Farda Asadov 1 2013 The Khazar Turks established an early medieval … The Khazar Turks established an early medieval era state-the Khazar Khaganate 1-and is generally discussed as one of the longest surviving ‘empires’ in the history of Eurasian nomadic peoples. 2 The majority of scholars consider the Khazar Khaganate as a continuation of the Western Turkic Khaganate tradition after its disintegration and final collapse circa 631-658 AD. In the available primary sources the linking event between two state chronologies is the rule of the offspring of the Ashina (Ansa) dynasty of the Western Turkic Khaganate in Khazaria. 3 We should, however, notice that Vladimir Monorsky, the translator of the original Persian text into English, later confessed to having a hesitation due to the confusion about the term Khazar ruler (shad) and the origin of the Ashina dynasty. 4 Nevertheless, besides the textual analysis, the scholars of Khazar studies collected a number of historical comparisons of khagan institutions1 ‘Khazar king or rulОr’is translated as khagan. 2 A map showing the territory of the Khazar realm, Kharazia, circa 850 AD is available here: Bibliotecapleyades. net. http://www. bibliotecapleyades. net/imagenes_sociopol/khazar03_01. jpg accessed 21 March 2013. 3 Hudud Al-Alam. Trade Routes, Trading Centers and the Emergence of the Domestic Market in Azerbaijan in the Period of Arab-Khazar Domination on the Silk Road Acta Via Serica / Academia Via Serica /Cild: 4 /N: 1 səh: 1-24 Farda Asadov 1 2019 Bloody wars between Arab Muslims and Khazar … Bloody wars between Arab Muslims and Khazar Turks in the Caucasus continued for a more than a hundred years from the mid century to the end of the century CE. The Khazar state survived but had to withdraw from Caucasian Albania, the present territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. However, the Khazars managed to expand their political control over the trade routes north-east and north-west of the Caucasian ridge. A trade partnership was established between former rival powers in the region that allows us to call the period after the end of the Arab-Khazar wars up to the time of the collapse of the Khazar state in the middle of the 10th century an era of Arab-Khazar partnership and domination of the Silk Road. This article highlights the impact made by geopolitical shifts in the regions of the time upon international trade tracks and particularly on the development of trade facilities, infrastructure, and local production in Azerbaijan, which became a major transit country of goods from the north to markets in the Muslim Near East. The importance of this information for achieving the political goals of the Caliphate government on the border with the nomadic Turks is pointed out. The controversy in the Soviet and post-Soviet Russian-language literature is traced about the reliability of the data provided by written monuments, as well as about how much the data of archaeological science may be preferable for further study of the socio-political and religious situation in the Khazar Khaganate in 9th-10th centuries. The possibilities and prospects of archaeological work to replenish information on the history of the Khazars are determined. The tendencies for strengthening the cooperation between archaeologists and researchers of written sources are characterized. The diversity of the concepts of history and the historical significance of the Khazar Khaganate are explained with reference to specifics of the Khazar studies in contemporary world. The episodes of international cooperation in programs and projects of Khazar archeology and Khazar historiography are highlighted. The information of written sources about the conversion of the Khazars to Judaism is placed in the context of contradictions between archaeological data and evidence from written monuments about the change of the official faith in the Khazar Khaganate. The established partnership of former adversaries brought about favorable conditions for international trade along the Silk Road. ANCIENT AND MEDIEVAL AGES Caucasian Albania: A contact zone of sedentary population and their states with Eurasian nomadic people (V-VII centuries CE) A Long-term History of Cross-cultural Transfers in the Caucasus səh: 11 Farda Asadov 0 2018 One of the questions in the study … One of the questions in the study of large Empires, is the question of whether to study the center of the Empire or the periphery. Of course, the center seems immediately to be the most important part, the richest one, the place where all the decisions were made and immediately applied. On the contrary, the peripheries were the regions where only the echoes of the same decisions arrived, where they were more or less applied, or even more or less understood. If we consider the Hellenistic Empire, the Roman Empire, the Chinese Empire and, to be brief, all Empires, it is clear that the study of their centers is rarely done or even that very few people have attempted to study their central regions. For example, from a monetary point of view, Rome is largely unknown. The main part of ancient Rome is under the present city; the enormous amount of coins found in excavations and buildings are still unpublished even if they are preserved2. It is the same situation with the Hellenistic Empire3, the Chinese Empire, etc. It is possible to imagine that we will never have a complete view of coin circulation in these urban centers, perhaps only some catalogues of marginal excavations. Acta Via Serica /Cild: 2 /N: 2 səh: 165-169 Farda Asadov 0 2017 This book by the Canadian Turkologist Joo-Yup … This book by the Canadian Turkologist Joo-Yup Lee is devoted to the origins of one of the largest Turkic peoples of the modern world. The Kazakhs are the biggest ethnic group in the 9th largest state in the world, Kazakhstan. This people gave the name to their country. However, it also happens in history that the land gives its name to the people inhabiting it. A country’s name can be just a geographical term (Austria, America, Spain, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Ukraine), or can also originate from the name of a previous population, which was not necessarily direct, or the only ancestor of the modern inhabitants (Britain, Romania, France, Bulgaria). Sometimes the self-name (endonym) of the people and the name under which the neighboring peoples know it can be completely different: gypsies (self-names: Romany, or Roma), Finns (suomalaiset), Hungarians (magyarok), or Albanians (shqiptarët). Daha çox

Daha çox

ELLAC AND ILEK: WHAT DOES THE STUDY OF AN ANCIENT TURKIC TITLE IN EURASIA CONTRIBUTE TO THE DISCUSSION OF KHAZAR ANCESTRY? Acta Via Serica / 계명대학교 실크로드중앙아시아연구원 /Cild: 2 /N: 2 səh: 114 Farda Asadov 0 2017 Several theories about the ancestry of the … Several theories about the ancestry of the Khazars and the origins of the Khazar state have been suggested to date. None of them provides a comprehensive solution for the controversial data of the written sources on the early history of the Khazars. This article investigates a possible link between the title of Kagan-Bek of the Deputy Kagan of the Khazars and a similar title Ellac/Ilek of the Akatsir-Huns. This study of the title argues for statehood and political culture connections between the earliest Turkic tribes of Western Eurasia and the Khazars and Turks of Central Asia. Daha çox

For most of the 19th century, right up to the signing of the Pamir Boundary Commission protocols in 1895, that introduced the division of the region into spheres of British and Russian influence, there has been rivalry between world powers for control of the central part of the Asian continent, run through by the trade routes from Europe and the Middle East to China and India. During this period, European travelers and scientists penetrated into Central Asia, publishing descriptions of their travels, in which the Western reader could learn about a hitherto unknown part of the planet and its various vernacular languages, historical and architectural monuments, diverse sanctuaries and religions. ON THE CREDIBILITY OF EARLY EVIDENCE OF ARAB GEOGRAPHERS ABOUT THE TURKS OF CENTRAL ASIA AND THE CAUCASUS book Farda Asadov 0 0 The article characterizes the sources and historical … The article characterizes the sources and historical conditions for obtaining the earliest information about the Turks of Central Asia and the Caucasus in the first works of Arab geography literature. The importance of this information for achieving the political goals of the Caliphate government on the border with the nomadic Turks is pointed out. Special attention is paid to information about the Turks of Central Asia from two chapters of the Mashhad manuscript of the work of Ibn al-Fakikh al-Hamadani" Akhbar al-Buldan". It is noted that the Meshad manuscript of this monument of Arab geography literature of the beginning of the 10th century preserved the news of the time of the first contacts of Muslim Arabs with the Turks, characterized by open confrontation and struggle for control over the agricultural areas of Central Asia. At the same time, the news of Ibn al-Fakih makes enables to restore the stages of the gradual transformation of the perception of non-Muslim Turks in Muslim society, as well as to characterize the ideological struggle of the Muslim government aimed at ousting traditional beliefs and spreading Islam among the nomadic Turks. An examination of the composition of the two currently known versions of the text by Ibn al-Faqih gives grounds for the conclusion Daha çox

The unification of protest forces in the former Soviet states was also based on a rejection of the past as a Soviet cultural and political commonality. It has also featured searches for new national identities. Evidence of mediaeval Arab sources is provided to justify that the interests of ruling elite and population at the boundary with nomadic people might differ from those of big empires. Nomads used to help the borderland state to struggle for their independence vis-a-vis the expansion of the great powers. Political contacts between elites, cooperation in international trade and border guarding policy of superpowers of the time were the policies used to settle the Turkic nomads in the territory of Caucasian Albania since antiquity, but thiswas intensified during Sassanid ruling and continued at the time of Arab domination.
