Huseyn Huseynov, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor, is the Head of the Science and Education Department at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. His scientific activity is primarily focused on the fields of oil refining, purification of oil fractions, and the synthesis of nanomaterials. One of the main directions of Huseynov's research is the extraction purification of oil fractions using ionic liquids (ILs). He also investigates the synthesis of carbon nanotubes and the effect of gamma radiation on the properties of various materials, particularly TiN nanocrystals. Huseynov has 62 publications with 154 citations, an h-index of 7, and an i10-index of 3 on Google Scholar. This article presents the results of studies of the selective purification of petroleum fractions for various purposes, in particular, the distillate of transformer oil and kerosene, diesel fuel distillates with various contents of aromatic hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds, as well as Naftalan oil by ion-liquid extraction purification using N-methylpyrrolidoneacetate as a selective solvent. The results obtained allow us to speak about the possibility of creating waste-free, environmentally acceptable technologies for the purification of fuels and oils that meet current and future requirements.

The results of calculations of the electron …
The results of calculations of the electron structure for Ag2S and Ag2Se crystals from first-principle in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) are presented in this work. The origin of the bands from s,p and d electron states of Ag, S and Se atoms are investigated. It was established that the orthorhombic Ag2Se crystal shows semiconductor properties in P2221 and P212121 space groups and semimetallic properties in Im-3m space groups with cubic crystal system. Monoclinic crystal type of Ag2S shows semiconductor properties in P21/c space group. However, semimetallic properties manifested itself in monoclinic Ag2S in P21 and cubic Ag2S structure in Im-3m phases.

—Carbon nanotubes are obtained using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment via the pyrolysis of natural gas in the presence of nanoscale iron. The influence of various parameters on the yield of nanomaterials synthesized is studied, and we find that the yield of nanocarbon increases with an increase in the pyrolysis temperature from 650 to 850°C. At the same time, the introduction of argon, which acts as a buffer gas, into the reactor significantly increases the yield of carbon nanotubes. The samples synthesized are studied by physical methods.

This work is devoted to study the extraction dearomatization of the kerosene fraction using ionic liquids synthesized on the basis of formic acid and morpholine, as well as acetic acid and diethylamine as a selective solvent. The influence of various factors on the selective purification process has been investigated and the conditions for dearomatization of kerosene have been determined. The group hydrocarbon composition of the dearomatized kerosene raffinate samples by ion-liquid extraction was determined by IR and UV spectral analysis.

This paper deals with the results of simulation of extractive purification process of model diesel fuel (the mixture of n-hexane with thiophene and m-xylene) by molecular dynamics simulation using N-methylpyrrolidinium acetate ionic liquid as an extractant. The extractive purification process was simulated for several model fuel systems with different concentrations of sulfur and aromatic containing components. The ionic liquid exhibits high extractive ability, the degrees of desulfurization and dearomatization reach 85–90 and 60wt.%, respectively. The results were proved by experimental studies of a mixture by the ionic liquid. After 1h of contact of the ionic liquid and the model mixture, the degree of purification against thiophene was 94.2wt.%.

In the past few years, the number of studies regarding the application of ionic liquids (IL) as alternative solvents to extract value-added compounds from crude oil fractions has been growing. Ionic liquids can be considered as green solvents due to their very low vapor pressure and wide range of applications with unique physical and chemical properties. In petroleum and hydrocarbon industries, various solvents have been used for treating purposes. However, these solvents have their own limitations as environmental and economical issue. These limitations can be overcome by use of ionic liquids. This paper gives a survey on the latest most popular IL, from their applications to their feasible results in refinery and petrochemical streams. Especially the selective treatment of the Azerbaijan’s crude oil fractions by IL was highlighted and achieved practicable and suitable results were indicated.

The study investigates the effect of gamma radiation on defect formation in 20 nm titanium nitride (TiN) nanocrystals through positron annihilation lifetime (PALS) and Doppler broadening spectroscopy (DBS) studies. PALS studies were performed at atmospheric pressure, and DBS studies were performed under high vacuum conditions of 10−9 Torr. Gamma irradiation of the samples was performed in MRX-25 gamma device using 60Co isotope with 1.27 MeV energy at absorption doses of 50, 200, 900, and 3500 kGy. Two lifetime components were observed in the PALS results. Under the influence of gamma radiation, τ1 increases from 170 to 179 ps, and τ2 increases from 325 to 398 ps. As the radiation dose increases, the intensity corresponding to the short lifetime component I1 increases (from 75.6 to 81.2%), and I2 decreases (from 24.4 to 18.7%). Приведены результаты процесса регенерации ионно-жидкостного экстрагента N-метилпирролидонацетата из экстрактного раствора, полученного селективной очисткой дистиллята с температурами кипения н. к. 234 С и к. к. 306 С, выделенного из нефти Балаханского месторождения. Показано, что в процессе регенерации указанной ионной жидкости из экстрактного раствора добавлением воды с последующей дистилляцией полученного водного раствора экстрагента последний не подвергается какому-либо структурному изменению и может быть использован в качестве избирательного растворителя повторно.

In the framework of the density functional theory electronic band structure and density of states of LaxBa1-xMnO3 solid solutions containing different concentrations of La and Ba atoms, were studied using different exchange correlation functionals. Our calculation show that the band gap, which characterizes the properties of semiconductors, varies depending on the concentration of La and Ba atoms in the compounds. Using such a dependence, it is possible to make changes in physical properties depending on the concentration of cations.

Rational use of petroleum products and environmental protection are considered problems of our time, the main solution to which is the eco-friendly way of extracting unwanted aromatic compounds from petroleum products and, in turn, their effective use in various fields. Ionic liquids, due to their unique complex properties, play a key role in the creation of clean technologies for refining petroleum products. The presented article gives the results of studies on the purification of transformer oil distillate T-1500 containing 24% mass of aromatic compounds in order to obtain a dearomatized product-raw material for the synthesis of synthetic naphthenic acids. The process of extracting aromatic hydrocarbons was carried out by the extraction method using ionic liquid-N-methylpyrrolidonium acetate-as an environmentally friendly solvent at a temperature of 60 C and an extraction time of 1 hour, either in one stage with a ratio of oil distillate to ionic liquid equal to 1: 1÷ 3, so and stage by stage using equal amounts of extractant and distillate at each stage. The effectiveness of stage-by-stage ionic-liquid extraction purification of transformer oil and the possibility of obtaining dearomatized distillate with a degree of 87.5% mass and a yield of 70.15% mass of the target product during three-stage purification have been established. UV spectral analysis of the dearomatized oil in comparison with the original distillate showed a decrease in the content of benzene and phenanthrene derivatives by 7.4 and 12.3 times, respectively, and the complete removal of tricyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

This paper presents the results of selective purification of oil distillates with a viscosity of 7.5 mm2/s and 18 mm2/s at C, as well as a mixture of these oil distillates obtained by compounding at various ratios using an ionic liquid based on diethylamine and formic acid as an extractant acid. The conditions for the ionic liquid dearomatization of the indicated oil distillates were determined by studying the influence of various factors on the selective purification process. Many parameters are set for the objects of research. The values of physicochemical parameters determined under various conditions are presented in the tables.

Подземные воды обычно содержат несколько десятков химических элементов и соединений. Однако чаще всего препятствует использование подземных вод в целях питьевого и промышленного водоснабжения наличие в ней повышенного содержания ионов железа, марганца, фтора, а также сероводорода. По рекомендации Всемирной организации здравоохранения и требованиям ГОСТа 2874-82 «Вода питьевая» концентрация железа и марганца в воде питьевого качества не должна превышать значений 0, 3 и 0, 1 мг/л соответственно [1]. Подземные воды, как правило, содержат железо от 1 до 5 мг/л, но встречаются источники подземной воды с содержанием железа до 20 мг/л [2]. В подземной воде, лишенной кислорода, железо обычно находится в форме раствора бикарбоната железа, частично гидролизованного. Существующие методы обезжелезивания подземных вод обсуждены в работах [3-7], где показано, что в процессе удаления железа из воды основное внимание уделялось действительно важным вопросам окисления двухвалентного железа кислородом воздуха в процессе аэрации воды. К. Холле [6], выполнивший на артезианских скважинах полупроизводственные эксперименты по обезжелезиванию воды без предварительного окисления двухвалентного железа, пришел к выводу, что с уменьшением значений pH процесс обезжелезивания на фильтрах улучшается. In this study, polycrystalline tungsten and tungsten carbide samples were irradiated with gamma rays at energies of 1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV, respectively. The irradiation was performed using an “MRX-γ-25 M” radiation camera with an activity of approximately 6.54 Gy/s. Doppler positron spectroscopy (DPS) and positron lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) were utilized to investigate the mechanisms of defect formation in the polycrystalline structure of tungsten samples at different doses of gamma irradiation. In the initial tungsten sample, a significant number of free monovacancy (1 V) clusters were present. An increase in the positron lifetime component τ1 was observed with increasing gamma irradiation, accompanied by a decrease in its intensity. In the presented work, comparative studies of the dielectric and electrical properties of La0. 73Ba0. 27MnO3 compounds were carried out at the temperature range T= 25-225 C and frequencies range f= 20-106 Hz. Temperature and frequency dependences of the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant, dielectric loss angle, dielectric constant, and electrical conductivity were obtained. This compound was found to have semiconducting properties under normal conditions. It has been established that with increasing temperature and frequency, the electrical conductivity in these compounds increases. This effect is explained by the release of charge carriers at deep levels due to thermal energy. At a temperature T= 140 C, a semiconductor-metal phase transition was detected in this compound. The values of physical parameters for each of the semiconductor and metal phases are determined. The occurrence of a phase transition is explained by the mechanism of activation of charge carriers due to thermal energy.

The article covers the study of the compatibility of the process of activated carbon acquisition from heavy pyrolysis resin with alkaline presence, investigation of its structure and properties by various analytical methods, and investigation of the activated carbon like adsorbent in sunflower oil bleaching process. The output of activated carbon and the effect of alkaline amount, pyrolysis temperature and contact time to the adsorption properties were investigated and carbon materials were synthesized in the 2, 0 g/g NaOH dose, 600 C temperature and 2 hours pyrolysis time, which obtained high dispersion porous structure and 700 mg/g adsorption capacity by 64% output. The synthesized carbon materials were used as an adsorbent comparatively with the traditional bleaching earth in the bleaching process of sunflower oil, the impact of the temperature, contact time and the adsorbent amount to the process were studied. It has been shown that the activated carbon sample gives a higher adsorption property in the sunflower oil bleaching, allowing the effectiveness of the process by reducing the contact time, temperature and adsorbent amount. In the bleaching process of sunflower oil, 0.5% amount for the activated carbon, 1% for the non-activated carbon, 30 minutes contact time and 80 C temperature are optimum conditions. However, 5% amount, 40 minutes contact time and 110 C temperature had been appointed for bleaching earth

The paper presents the results of studies on ionic-liquid extraction purification of kerosene fractions differing in boiling point and aromatic hydrocarbons content using ionic liquid based on acetic acid and dibutylamine-dibutylammonium acetate as a selective solvent. By carrying out the process of extraction in one stage, as well as stage-bystage at different mass ratios of extractant and raw materials, the conditions for obtaining kerosene with the degree of de-aromatization of 91.17-93.94% wt. were established. The results of one-stage ionic-liquid extraction purification of the studied samples of kerosene fraction showed the highest degree of extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons from the composition of kerosene fraction with boiling point 145-250 C and the most enriched content of undesirable components. UV-spectral analysis of the raffinate obtained by ionic-liquid extraction revealed almost complete removal of phenanthrenes from the kerosene fraction in two-stage extraction, phenanthrenes and anthracenes in three-stage extraction. IR spectral analysis of samples of kerosene fractions indicates a decrease in the intensities of absorption bands characteristic of aromatic hydrocarbons in the raffinate. Prospectively of ionic-liquid dearomatization of kerosene fraction is determined by the possibility of regeneration and reuse of the used ionic liquid, which indicates the creation of environmentally safe technology, as well as relatively high yield and degree of dearomatization compared to acid-contact purification

The extraction purification process is currently being intensively studied and has a great future as an alternative method of purification of petroleum fractions. The point is that the development of technology and rise in the consumption of fuels and oils calls for tightening of requirements to their quality characteristics. At the same time, special attention is paid to the content of aromatic hydrocarbons, sulfur - containing and resinous compounds in their composition. The present review considers the results of studies of extractive purification of various oil fractions using both traditional and "green" solvents - ionic liquids as an extractant providing for the effectiveness of ion - liquid extraction purification. The article also describes studies on combining the process of ion - liquid extraction with an oxidative purification method. The results of studies carried out at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan on ion - liquid extraction purification of petroleum distillates for various purposes, in particular, transformer oil distillate, catalytic cracking and reforming gasoline, AMG - 10 hydraulic fluid, Naftalan oil, diesel fuel, as well as oil distillates fractions with different viscosity values, are shown in the article. Also, the possibility getting petroleum products when used as a selective solvent of ionic liquids (morpholformate, anilinformate, N - methylpyrrolidone acetate, etc.) differing in cationic - anionic combination is substantiated.

Пиролизом природного газа в присутствие наноразмерного железа …
Пиролизом природного газа в присутствие наноразмерного железа на установке СVD получены углеродные нанотрубки. Изучено влияние различных параметров на выход синтезированных наноматериалов и установлено, что с повышением температуры пиролиза с 650 до 850 C увеличивается выход наноуглерода. В то же время введение в реактор аргона, играющего роль буферного газа, заметно увеличивает выход углеродных нанотрубок. Характеризация синтезированных образцов проведена физическими методами.

Cu 2-x Tm x Se (x= 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) system compounds were synthesized and their structural properties were studied. Research was carried out by X-ray diffraction method at room temperature. It was determined that the crystal structure of these compounds corresponds to rhombohedral symmetry with R-3m (166) space group. Lattice parameters and atomic coordinates were assigned for each compound. The difference between the crystallographic parameters of Cu 1.9 Tm 0.1 Se, Cu 1.7 Tm 0.3 Se and Cu 1.5 Tm 0.5 Se compounds was explained by the difference between the ionic radii of Cu and Tm atoms.

The effect of ionizing radiation on the lattice dynamics of TiN nanoparticles with a size of d = 20 nm has been studied. During the research, the samples were irradiated with gamma rays at doses of D = 50, 200, 900, and 3500 kGy. Vibrational properties were investigated using the Raman spectroscopy method in the wave number range of ν = 100–600 cm-1. It was determined that under normal conditions, four Raman modes are observed in TiN nanoparticles: ν1 = 152 cm-1, ν2 = 246 cm-1, ν3 = 359 cm-1, and ν4 = 500 cm-1. Changes in the Raman modes were observed under the influence of ionizing gamma rays. It was found that these changes are associated with lattice densification, which likely results from the removal of surface-bound impurities and enhanced atomic packing due to radiation-induced structural compaction. This study comprehensively explores the wear mechanisms, restoration techniques, and precision mechanical processing methods applied to diesel engine injector needles, which play a critical role in ensuring accurate fuel atomization and efficient combustion in internal combustion engines. Subjected to extreme operational environments, these injector needles are prone to multiple forms of degradation, including abrasive, corrosive, thermal, mechanical, cavitation, and fatigue-related wear. The deterioration of the injector needle and the sprayer body directly affects fuel delivery efficiency and engine performance, often leading to increased emissions and fuel consumption. To address these challenges, the study proposes a restoration methodology that integrates vapor-phase diffusion chromotitanization–a thermochemical surface treatment that enhances hardness and wear resistance–with high-precision mechanical reprocessing. Specifically, the restored injector needles undergo grinding using synthetic diamond wheels of the AC6-100/80 MB1 type at 100% diamond concentration. Experimental optimization determined the ideal transverse feed to be 0.42 mm/min with a driving wheel speed of 50 min⁻ ¹. Following grinding, a multilayer finishing process is carried out using cast iron lapping tools and KT-based abrasive pastes to refine the surface texture. The resulting surface roughness values achieved were within Ra= 0.032–0.040 μm, and geometric deviations remained under 1 μm, matching or surpassing factory-level precision standards.
