Səfa Qarayev Azərbaycan Milli Elmlər Akademiyasının Rəyasət Heyətinin elmi katibi vəzifəsində çalışır. O, filologiya üzrə fəlsəfə doktoru elmi dərəcəsinə və dosent elmi adına malikdir. Onun elmi fəaliyyəti əsasən Azərbaycan folklorunun psixosemantik aspektlərinə, mifoloji-ritual tədqiqatlara və sosial-kommunikativ hadisələrin təhlilinə yönəlmişdir. Tədqiqatlarının konseptual çərçivəsi folklor mətni ilə sosial mühitin qarşılıqlı əlaqəsini, o cümlədən gender münasibətləri, davranış modelləri və psixoloji komplekslərin tədqiqini əhatə edir. 2021-ci ildə nəşr olunmuş 'The Oedipus Tale Type in Azerbaijani: Folklore and its Socio-Psychological Semantics' adlı əsəri iki dəfə sitat götürülmüş və Azərbaycan folklorunda psixoloji semantikanın tədqiqi baxımından elmi yenilik təşkil edir. 2020-ci ildə dərc olunmuş 'LAUGHTER IN AZERBAIJANI FOLKLORE: CONCEPTS OF BEHAVIOR, PSYCHOLOGICAL CONFLICTS, AND SOCIAL COMMUNICATION' adlı məqalə bir dəfə sitat götürülmüş və folklor kontekstində davranış və sosial kommunikasiyanın tədqiqinə praktiki əhəmiyyət kəsb edir. 2023-cü ildə 'Embodiment of the Manhood in Folklore: Keeping Secret from Women in Azerbaijan in the Context of a Real and Virtual Social Environment' adlı məqalə bir dəfə sitat götürülmüş və gender tədqiqatları sahəsində aktual mövzuya həsr olunmuşdur. In this article, I analyze tales collected from Azerbaijani territories from a psycho-semantic perspective, specifically pertaining to the Oedipus tale type (AT: 931, 933). The incest taboo, a common theme in Azerbaijani society, is discouraged in these tales through symbolic behaviors. In these tales, which were collected in different Azerbaijani territories at different times, the transgression of the taboo of incest firstly happens between sisters and brothers, later between mothers and sons. When we approach the fairy tale plots presented in the context of the Oedipus complex, it becomes clear that these fairy tales are also organized on the basis of the son’s point of view. This is evident in the tales because of their descriptions of the father—a common character in the Oedipus tale type—as the culprit of all anti-social and unethical problems. The importance of laughter in the cultural context is first of all linked to its social context. As a metaphor, laughter does not only provide the exchange of integrative information between members of the community. It is at the same time one of the behaviors envisaging aggressive relationships in society. This can be clearly seen by observing metaphors related to laughter in the sociocultural environment of Azerbaijan. As we know, psychosocial complexes are rendered more metaphorically in folklore. This article investigates reasons for keeping secrets from women in real and virtual social environment of Azerbaijan through a manhood perspective. The investigation has revealed that the masculinity within the society creates the folklore patterns that prohibit the transfer of the secrets of this gender group to women and on the other hand, prohibit the connection of women with the male social environment. The attitudes supporting manhood are not expressed directly in the folklore texts, but are articulated sporadically, yet their symbolic manifestations influence all the events in the text. In general, investigating the psychosocial complexes within folklore provides extensive opportunities for the study of creative facts in a projective context. In this article, the embodiment of manhood in folklore has been analyzed based on Azerbaijani fairy-tales, jokes and proverbs. The results of the research reveal that sharing a secret to a woman is constructed as deprivation of manhood in the socio-cultural environment of Azerbaijan. In this article, the concept of the men’s keeping secrets from the women has also been investigated within the framework of the Azerbaijani-language virtual social environment. The examples from the Internet sources considering Azerbaijani folklore, which have recently become the cultural reality, have been selected and analyzed in order to explain manhood stereotypes. The results of the investigation show that unlike the traditional folklore facts, the concept of the men’s keeping secrets from the women in the virtual social environment is presented in a more ironic and comic manner. Social context often drives the performance of laughter in cultural situations. As a metaphor, laughter provides not only an exchange of integrative information among the community members, but also the enactment of aggressive relations in the society. These characteristics may be seen clearly while observing metaphors related to the performance of laughter in the Azerbaijani socio-cultural environment. In the study of humor, content is usually analyzed but the performance of behavioral cues such as laughter is neglected, although it can shed light on the meaning of the communication. To understand folk behaviors and texts related to the laughter, I argue that special attention needs to be given to behaviors as well as texts communicated in a social situation. This study reveals that the jokes causing laughter are accepted and perceived by the male and female audiences differently. Women's laughter receives disapproval in the Azerbaijan cultural context regarding sexuality. Men take such laughter to be a threat to their manliness.
